The first of its kind in Wales, the award-winning guidance provides practical guidance on embedding Green Infrastructure into the planning process.

CBA was commissioned by Monmouthshire County Council in South East Wales to prepare a Green Infrastructure Strategy to support delivery of the Local Development Plan's policies and the Monmouthshire Well-being Plan.  The Strategy aims to maximise the range of benefits that different Green Infrastructure assets can deliver through an integrated approach to managing greenspaces for a range of ecosystem services - such as sustainable food production, flood management and providing access to nature.  The Strategy identifies priorities, opportunities and actions for the restoration, maintenance, creation or connection of Green Infrastructure assets at a strategic landscape-scale, and also at a place-specific local level in and around key settlements where growth is planned in the Local Development Plan.

CBA was also commissioned by the Council to prepare Supplementary Planning Guidance to support application of Green Infrastructure policies in the Monmouthshire Local Development Plan.  The first of its kind in Wales, the award-winning guidance provides practical guidance on embedding Green Infrastructure into the planning process within Monmouthshire, much of which is also applicable for other areas in Wales.

Colette Bosley, Green Infrastructure & Countryside Team Leader at Monmouthshire County Council, said: "Just to say a big thank you to the CBA team for delivering a great piece of work and the subsequent award from the Landscape Institute - it was a great achievement and has gone down well throughout the Council and has been reported back to Welsh Government - with congratulations from the Head of Planning."
